Gustave Courbet (Jean-Desiré-Gustave Courbet)
was born on June 10, 1819, in Ornans,
France, in the Franche-Comté region near the Swiss border. Painter,
master of the realistic school . His best-known paintings :
The Burial at Ornans, the workshop. His worries precise description
of the guidelines painting in a new direction violently opposed
to academic conventions. Courbet’s statement highlights the
increasing disjunction between the established artistic patterns
of historicism as championed by the "École des Beaux-Arts"
and the innovators of this new form of art known as "Realism".
Courbet is considered as the father of modern painting. Courbet
had responsibilities under the Commune
of Paris and made several years of prison for that. He was
forced into exile for not paying a huge tax. He died in 1877
at the Tour de Peilz (Switzerland).
