Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889)




Alexandre Cabanel was born in Montpellier, and studied in Paris. He won the Prix de Rome in 1845. He became famous with his painting named "Birth of Venus" (1863), now in the Orsay museum. No longer later, he entered the franch Institute and became one of the most popular portrait of that period. he eachedpainting to a number of famous artists, as Henri Gervex (1852-1929), Daniel Ridgway Knight (1839-1924), Henri Léopold Lévy, Henri Régnault (1843-1871)...
